Serving Like Jesus

We are devoting the summer of 2010 to serving like Jesus - carrying out random acts of kindness in Jesus' name.  As we carry out these acts of servant evangelism, we need to be reminded that we serve as the hands and feet of Jesus Christ in our world.  Servanthood was the lifestyle that Jesus led.  In John 13, He told the disciples "I have given you an example: go and do the same."  He was referring to His demonstration of servanthood by washing the feet of the disciples - a task that was reserved for the lowest of slaves - in fact, it was usually done by a Gentile slave or servant and not a Jewish servant.  It was the lowest of the low in the way of assigned tasks.  Jesus said, I have given you an example that says nothing is too menial to do in the name of the Kingdom of God.
This summer, as we serve our community in Jesus name, remember even a cup of cold water given in Jesus' name will be rewarded.  The reality is you and I are more like Jesus when we are serving than at any other time.  So, "go and do the same."
